People typically think of the Bible as a book full of answers to life’s deepest questions. And, while there is truth to this, the Bible is also chock full of questions. Profound questions. Questions that probe and search us. Consider the following questions from Scriptures. How many do you recognize? With how many have you wrestled? How many of these questions have questioned you?

Cain: “Am I my brother’s keeper?” (Genesis 4:9)
God: “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” (Genesis 18:14)
Elijah: “How long will you go limping with two different opinions?” (1 Kings 18:21)
Job: “Shall we receive the good at the hand of God, and not receive the bad?” (Job 2:10)
God: “Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundations?” (Job 38:4)
Solomon: “What do people gain from all the toil at which they toil under the sun?” (Ecclesiastes 1:3)
God: “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” (Isaiah 6:8)
God: “To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?” (Isaiah 40:25)
Jesus: “But what about you? Who do you say that I am?” (Mark 8:29)
Jesus: “Why do you see the speck in your neighbor’s eye, but do not notice the log in your own eye?” (Matthew 7:3)
Jesus: “For what will it profit them to gain the whole world and forfeit their life?” (Mark 8:36)
Teacher of the Law: “And who is my neighbor?” (Luke 10:29)
Jesus: “Judas, is it with a kiss that you are betraying the Son of Man?” (Luke 22:48)
Jesus: “Do you wish to go away also?” Peter: “Lord, to whom shall we go?” (John 6:67)
An angel: “Why do you seek the living with the dead?” (Luke 24:5)
Jesus: “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” (John 21:15)
Philippian Jailer: “What must I do to be saved?” (Acts 16:30)
Paul: “What do you have that you did not receive?” (1 Corinthians 4:7)
Paul, quoting from Isaiah and Job: “For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?” “Or who has given a gift to him, to receive a gift in return?” (Romans 11:34-35)
Paul: “Shall we sin so that grace may abound?” (Romans 6:1)
Paul: “If God is for us, who can be against us?… Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?” (Romans 8:31, 35)
Paul: “Why do you pass judgment on your brother or sister? Or you, why do you despise your brother or sister?” (Romans 14:10)
Paul: “Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law, or by hearing with faith?” (Galatians 3:2)
James: “What is your life?” (James 4:14)
