The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want…

These are difficult days. We have been biding our time and doing our best to follow “Safer-at Home” directives and wear our masks. We have prayed and adjusted our lives to meet the needs of those who are most vulnerable to this pandemic as well as protecting ourselves and our families. Still we seem powerless to make this virus go away. How long, oh Lord, will we suffer loss at the hands of disease?

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside still waters, he restores my soul…

Now Lord, we are besieged by images of anger, hatred, and violence. We are caught in the throes of witnessing people who hate and grab for their own gain. They trample over others, masking themselves under the cloak of seeking justice. Those who try to protest and stand up for the rights of those who are oppressed are unwittingly being used as a shield for those who seek to steal and destroy. How long, oh Lord?

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for you are with me…

We, your people Lord, long to be useful in the midst of these dark days. What we need are your eyes to see those whose rescue we can accomplish. We need your resolve to stand and make a difference in ways that will make last into eternity. We need your unyielding love to flow from us to those who feel hopeless and loveless so that they can see a better tomorrow, and it needs to begin today.

You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows…

This is our prayer, Lord. Give us the heart, soul, mind and strength to be all that You envision us to be even as we offer our hearts, souls, minds and strength to You. Make us, oh Lord, your people instruments of your peace in the midst of this chaos!

Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever!
