We’re delighted to ordain Char Hurley today as our children’s minister. Though Char and her family are well known to us, we are deeply grateful for her willingness to utilize her wide-ranging gifts and experiences to nurture and spiritually form our children and their families. I invited Char to share her answers to a variety of get-acquainted questions and invite you to enjoy her answers as we get to know her even better.
Birthday: January 12

Favorite place: In nature surrounded by the beauty of mountains, forests, oceans; I have even come to appreciate the green cornfields of Illinois in July.
Favorite book: I mostly like non-fiction: essays, articles, biographies/autobiographies, and Biblical and science-related books. But my deeply cherished favorites are the books I read over and over again to my boys. One of those was, “Jesse Bear, What Will You Wear?” Favorite book of Scripture: The gospel of Luke and Philippians (I have reasons)
Favorite Christian author(s): Frederick Buechner is one that was instrumental early on, and I revisit often
Favorite worship song or hymn: “Mighty to Save”; one that remains meaningful and close to my heart because it was my mom’s favorite is “The Old Rugged Cross”
Morning person or night owl? Morning, but it takes awhile : )
What is your superpower? I see the good in people and am an encourager; loyal and easy-going
Spiritual hero: I have had many for various reasons—as we both got older, my mom became one of my favorites.
What is most exciting to you about joining the Conejo ministry team? I love my church family, and there are always new people to get to know better.
What has drawn you to ministry? I came to Christ as a young adult in college. The gospel truly transformed my life. I deeply resonate with Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 15:10 “But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect.” I want others to know of God’s goodness and love.
Any other question you’d like to answer: Here are a few extras for free. : ) My favorite color has always been purple. I love science, animals (my dog, Gemma), frogs and reptiles. I love to laugh and hear interesting stories about people’s lives.
